Lt. Governor McKee and Mayor Winthrop to Host Energy-Shopping Info Session in Newport

On Friday, September 22nd at 1:00 p.m., Lt. Governor Dan McKee will partner with Newport Mayor Henry Winthrop to host an Empower RI information session at the Newport Public Library to help ratepayers safely shop for alternate electricity suppliers and save on their electric bills.

During the information sessions, members of McKee’s staff will be available to answer questions about Empower RI (www.ri.gov/EmpowerRI), an energy-shopping website McKee helped launch in 2016. Staff members will also demonstrate how to switch electricity suppliers online and circumvent National Grid’s rate increase set to go into effect on October 1st.

The session is free and open to the public. Residents wishing to learn more are asked to bring their most recent electric bills to the Newport Public Library, 300 Spring Street, Newport, RI.

Over the next several weeks, the lieutenant governor’s office will continue to partner with municipal leaders to host Empower RI information sessions across the state.
