All Middletown Roads Passable After Storm, Cleanup to Continue Through Week

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. — Middletown’s Public Works crews have cleared every local road following the historic Blizzard of 2026, town officials said Thursday.

Town Administrator Shawn J. Brown said crews reported for duty Sunday at 4 p.m., though the bulk of snow removal operations could not begin until 5 p.m. Monday due to conditions.

“The volume of snow and sustained winds made this a complex operation,” Brown said, praising the coordination and endurance of Public Works staff.

All roads are now considered passable, officials said, but work is ongoing to widen travel lanes, clear sidewalks and improve visibility at intersections. Those efforts are expected to keep Public Works crews busy through the remainder of the week.

Crews are also completing cleanup at school properties to support reopening.

Sidewalk clearing will prioritize key pedestrian corridors, including the Oxbow neighborhood to Stop & Shop, Maple Avenue to Shaw’s, and areas near bus stops to ensure riders have safe refuge while waiting or disembarking.

Residents seeking nonemergency assistance are asked to contact the town’s Emergency Operations Center at 401-842-6555. Officials emphasized that 911 should be used only for emergencies.

Brown thanked residents for their cooperation during the storm response.

“We’ve remained in this together, pulling in the same direction,” he said. “Look at all that’s been accomplished for you — and Middletown.”
