Newport City Council Looks To Ban Plastic Bags

Three members of Newport’s City Council have sponsored a resolution to ban the use plastics bags in the city.

Councilors Florez, Neville and Ceglie site the negative environmental impact, possible harm to wildlife and marine animals, litter and altered ecosystems in their resolution that is expected to be heard at the council’s next meeting on May 25th.

The resolution points to Barrington, RI and more than 100 other municipalities around the nation who have already placed restrictions on single use plastic bags. It is worth note that this will not ban plastic garbage bags as that would actually increase litter and create more harm to our environment.
