The Newport Comedy Series is taking a year off after 15 straight summer seasons of presenting many of the biggest names in standup comedy in Newport.
“While we explore options to find a first-class venue that meets our needs and provides the amenities that our attendees, sponsors and performers have come to expect from us, we thought that it would be best to put the Newport Comedy Series on hold for now,” says cofounder and President of the series, Joe Rocco. “There is a possibility that we will present two to four shows in the summer and fall at a venue TBA. In the meantime, we are extremely grateful to the thousands who have attended our shows, our loyal sponsors and Playbill advertisers who made it possible to bring the biggest stars in comedy to Newport over the past 15 years,” added Rocco.
The Newport Comedy Series has become one of the most popular comedy festivals in America. It was held last year at the Hyatt Newport and for the previous 14 years at the Newport Yachting Center. Kevin Hart, Amy Schumer, Chelsea Handler, Louie CK, Dane Cook, Joan Rivers, Kathy Griffin, Martin Short, Brian Regan and Lewis Black were among those who performed at the series. Many of them appeared multiple times.
