Residents of Newport County are invited to enjoy free admission to open Preservation Society properties on Saturday, April 30, and Sunday, May 1.
Those eligible to participate in Newport County Days include residents of Jamestown, Newport, Middletown, Portsmouth, Tiverton and Little Compton. This includes personnel stationed at Naval Station Newport and their immediate family. Proof of residence or Naval Station ID is required. This offer is subject to the Preservation Society’s Operating Schedule.
The Breakers, Marble House and Green Animals Topiary Garden will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 30. The Breakers and Green Animals will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 1. Please note that Marble House will be closed May 1.
The Breakers and Marble House offer fun and educational tours geared to younger visitors. During The Breakers Children’s Tour, guests will hear from fanciful creatures like a friendly dolphin hiding under the grand staircase and dragons in the dining room while also hearing what it was like to live in this legendary Vanderbilt “cottage.”
The Marble House Children’s Tour offers a whimsical perspective with the help of a professional voice actor playing the role of Marble House, telling stories while guiding visitors from room to room.
Various characters are introduced along the way, including Apollo the Sun God, bragging about his curly hair.
Visitors to Green Animals can enjoy more than 80 topiaries in the shape of animals and geometric designs, and a historic garden planted with 19,000 daffodils in 58 varieties, more than 6,000 tulips, and thousands of uncommon and unusual flowering bulbs.
