Newport Mansions Kicks Off Spring with Green Animals Opening, Plant Sales, Garden Tips, and Tree Tours

Spring is in full bloom at the Newport Mansions, where a lineup of seasonal events will celebrate gardens, trees, and all things green.

The annual Green Animals Plant Sale returns just in time for Mother’s Day weekend. From Friday, May 9, through Sunday, May 11, early birds can browse a selection of locally grown flowers, vegetables, herbs and specialty plants between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. at Green Animals Topiary Garden in Portsmouth, R.I. Shoppers will find annuals, perennials, dahlia tubers, geranium standards, hanging baskets, and more—many cultivated in the Preservation Society’s greenhouses.

Starting Saturday, May 10, Green Animals will also reopen daily for tours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets or Preservation Society memberships are required to tour the gardens after the morning plant sales.

Green Animals is located at 380 Corys Lane in Portsmouth.
