The Coast Guard was called Monday to a plane crash in the west passage of Narragansett Bay..
Only the pilot, who was reportedly not injured, was aboard the aircraft during the crash.
After the single-engine propellor plane plunged into the bay, a nearby good Samaritan aboard a recreational boat rushed to recover the pilot from the water.
The Rhode Island State Police notified Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England in Woods Hole, Massachusetts at 12:51 p.m. The sector launched two 45-foot Response Boat crews from Station Castle Hill and Station Point Judith.
Once on scene, the boat crews ensured the pilot was safe and evaluated the crash scene. No pollution was reported, and at an estimated sea depth of about 20 feet, the wreckage poses little hazard to navigation.
The pilot declined medical treatment.
The Coast Guard continues to monitor the crash site, and will work with the owner who is currently evaluating a salvage plan.
