Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo is the 7th least popular governor according to a poll released this morning from Morning Consult. The poll shows the Rhode Island Democrat with a 50% disapproval rating.
This certainly is not good news for Governor Raimondo who only won 40.7% of the vote in 2014. This year, Governor Raimondo faces strong Republican challengers in Businessman Giovanni Feroce, Cranston Mayor Allan Fung and House Minority Leader Patricia Morgan. Governor Raimondo also faces a challenge from the left in former RI Secretary of State Matt Brown who is running as an independent. Brown is certain to drain votes from Governor Raimondo’s liberal base. Former Republican Joe Trillo has also announced his candidacy as an independent.
Connecticut Governor Dan Malloy was ranked least popular with a 72% disapproval. (Who’s the bigger shit hole now, Connecticut?)
Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker ranks as the nation’s most popular governor, with the Bay State Republican enjoying a whopping 71% approval rating.
Buckle up, folks. It’s going to be an interesting campaign season!
The latest edition of Morning Consult’s Governor Approval Rankings was compiled from online surveys conducted with almost 275,000 registered voters from Jan. 1 through March 31. See their methodology here.
