The Newport Pell Bridge road deck replacement project will begin in early August.
Lane Closures Early August 2019 – December 2020: Single lane permanent lane closure will go into effect. Contraflow traffic controls will allow 2 lanes of traffic Eastbound into Newport and 1 lane out during morning rush hours (6:00am to 9:00am) and 2 lanes of traffic Westbound out of Newport and 1 lane in during evening rush hours (3:00pm to 6:00pm).
Traffic may be reduced to a single lane in each direction from 9:00am to 3:00pm weekdays and overnight Sunday through Thursday from 7:00pm to 5:30am.
Other lane closures may also be instituted throughout the entire duration of the project. There will be no Additional Lane Closures during major holidays and certain major events that are taking place in the City of Newport.
