Rhode Island native Viola Davis gave a wonderful speech after becoming the first African-American woman to win the best actress in a drama series award at the 2015 Emmys on Sunday. Speaking out against the difficulties black women face in getting lead roles, Davis, who grew up in Central Falls, said: ‘You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there.’
Davis won for her role as a defense lawyer on ABC’s “How to Get Away With Murder”.
