RIP Audrey Rearick

Audrey Elizabeth Rearick, 80, of Middletown, Rhode Island, passed away unexpectedly on May 3, 2018 at home. Audrey was born in Newport, RI, on February 22, 1938 to William McMillan and Elizabeth (Seibold) McMillan. Her sister Louise Vargas predeceased her.

Audrey touched many lives during her 31 year career as an elementary school teacher in the Newport School System where she taught at Mumford School and Sullivan School. Audrey strived to maximize each of her student’s strengths and capabilities. Audrey treated every student with love and respect. Audrey was a loving mother, grandmother and great friend to so many. She was a caring and compassionate person, who possessed a wonderful sense of humor and a love for animals.

After her retirement, Audrey was active in local politics. Audrey was a former member of the Middletown Planning Board and was a member of the Board of Canvassers. She was a member of the National Education Association, Norman Bird Sanctuary and the Middletown Democratic Party.

Audrey is survived by her son William Rearick and his wife Paula, of Portsmouth, RI, her grandchildren, Timothy and Abigail Rearick, her 3 nieces, Donna Leydem, Deborah DiBenedetto, Doreen Bullock, and nephew Dwayne Stefano and her nine grand nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday May 9, 2018 at 11:00am in the Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway in Newport.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the Robert Potter League for Animals, PO Box 412 Newport, RI 02840, or the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center 2865 Tower Hill Road Saunderstown, RI 02874
