Megan M. Yakey, age 42, of Seagrass Drive, Wakefield, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 5, 2018, at South County Hospital. She was the fiancé of Michael Palmer of Ledyard, CT.
Born in South Kingstown, the daughter of Jane E. (Erban) Dwyer of Wakefield and the late Henry J. Yakey, she lived in Narragansett before moving to Wakefield six years ago.
Megan was employed as an administrative assistant at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston for the last ten years. She was currently completing her bachelors degree at URI, which will be awarded posthumously this spring.
In addition to her fiancé and mother, she is survived by her cherished daughter, Abigail J. Yakey; her step-father, John T. Dwyer, III; a sister, Elizabeth L. Kearns of New Mexico; her maternal grandmother, Catherine E. (Nichols) Atkinson of South Kingtown; an uncle, Brian Atkinson and his wife Maria; a nephew, Joshua Bowen; and three step-siblings, Taura L. Dwyer, John T. Dwyer, IV, and Erin N. Dwyer. She was the niece of the late Richard Erban.
Megan is also survived by her fiancé’s children, Erica Palmer and Mary Palmer.
A Mass of Christian Burial at will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 10, at 10 a.m. in Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Road, Kingston. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Wakefield. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, April 9, from 4-7 p.m. in the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick.
