Sidewalk upgrades begin in Newport to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act

Work to upgrade the City’s network of sidewalks is underway this week at several locations around town.

Along Broadway, crews are working in the area around Innovate Newport at Vernon Avenue where new concrete is being poured and granite curbing set. The wheelchair ramps are also being reconstructed in order to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.

Sidewalk work also recently began on Freeborn Street, where new concrete panels are being installed. And visitors to Morton Park and The Edward King House Senior Center will soon enjoy new ADA enhancements to improve accessibility.

Work on all of these projects is scheduled to take place weekdays during normal business hours and parking may be restricted at times. If you’d like to keep up with the latest construction news around the City, be sure to visit www.CityofNewport.com/ConstructionUpdates
