On Thursday, August 31st, the de Ramel Foundation announced a gift of $500,000 to the Newport County YMCA to support the future of squash in Newport County. The partnership between the Newport County YMCA, RhodySquash and the de Ramel Foundation began February 1st, 2017. This relationship aligns three organizations with common goals of youth development, healthy well-being and social responsibility serving as natural partners to expand health, wellness and education opportunities in Newport County.
“The relationship between the Newport County YMCA, RhodySquash and the de Ramel Foundation was a
perfect match with all three organizations looking to meet common goals. We have enjoyed having
RhodySquash be a part of our Y family and know the resources provided by the de Ramel Foundation will
allow for more youth of Newport County to benefit from the RhodySquash program,” said Mike Miller,
CEO, Newport County YMCA.
RhodySquash is a non-profit organization providing no cost enrichment programming to accepted students on Aquidneck Island. Urban squash programs across the country have seen great success raising their student’s GPAs, improving standardized testing performance, teaching the importance of good exercise habits and nutrition, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and building awareness of the importance of community service. Squash players are paired up with tutors and mentors to ensure their success both on and off the court.

will continue to grow and strengthen within our community with financial support from the de Ramel
foundation,” Ann Guinan, Executive Director, RhodySquash.
Molly and Guillaume de Ramel with the de Ramel Foundation have been supporters of health and wellness
initiatives awarding millions in grants to the Neurosciences at R.I Hospital, Women and Infants Hospital,
Newport Hospital, local schools and sports leagues, environmental organizations, and non-profits
encouraging innovation and adventure toward the better good of all. Through the relationship with
RhodySquash, the de Ramel Foundation grant given to the Newport County YMCA, is an investment in the
future of Newport squash and their ability to implement their vision of health and wellness to the youth of
Newport County.
“Squash is chess at 100 mph. The game trains the body and mind together. Our Foundation is so proud
to help the Y, and Rhode Island kids and parents,” said Molly de Ramel with the de Ramel Foundation.
