The Trump organization and its longtime chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg, were criminally charged Thursday by the Manhattan district attorney’s office in a case involving alleged tax-related crimes.
“The defendants … engaged in a scheme constituting a systematic ongoing course of conduct with intent to defraud more than one person and to obtain property from more than one person by false and fraudulent pretenses representations and promise…” the indictment reads.
According to prosecutors the Trump Organization paid employees rent, utility bills, garage fees, school expenses and other living expenses without properly declaring them “so that they could and did pay federal, state and local taxes in amounts that were significantly less than the amounts that should have been paid”.
Weisselberg pleaded not guilty to all 15 charges, including tax fraud, conspiracy, grand larceny and falsifying business records.
Former President Trump just released a statement calling this a “political Witch Hunt.”
“The political Witch Hunt by the Radical Left Democrats, with New York now taking over the assignment, continues. It is dividing our Country like never before!,” the statement reads.
