On Friday, August 25, 2017 at 3pm, The Newport Police Department responded to the intersection of Hillside Ave and West Evans Street for a motor vehicle accident involving a juvenile on a bicycle. On arrival Newport Fire Department rendered immediate aid to the 7-year-old male victim who was riding the bicycle, who is a Newport resident. The juvenile was subsequently air lifted to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence where he remains at this time.
The Newport Police Department conducted the investigation, speaking with eye witnesses, youths present with the injured youth at the time of the collision and at this time no charges will be brought against the operator of the vehicle involved, a 27-year-old male Newport resident. The vehicle did not strike the juvenile bicyclist. The juvenile rode into the vehicle broadside striking the passenger side of the moving vehicle.
