Obituary: Bruce Kohl (1953-2026)

Bruce Kohl, age 72, of Pikeville, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at his residence.

Born on October 4, 1953, Bruce was the son of the late Boyd Rowland Kohl and Eunice Alice Butler Kohl of Newport, Rhode Island.

A lifelong interest in electronics led Bruce to a career as a biomedical technician. He dedicated many years to Pikeville Medical Center, where he was known for his skill and precision in repairing and maintaining complex medical equipment. He took great pride in his work and the role he played in supporting patient care.

Bruce was of the Methodist faith and was deeply committed to his community. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, serving as a troop leader for the Cub Scouts, where he mentored young people and shared his values of service and leadership.

He also proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force and was a member of Disabled American Veterans, John’s Creek Chapter 166.

Bruce is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Cynthia Jean Shull Kohl; his sons, Christopher William Kohl and Sean Alan Kohl; his step-son, Joseph Hooper; his brother, Earl R. Kohl; his sisters, Mary Elizabeth Kohl Sarno and Joyce Anne Kohl Bartel; and three grandchildren.
