Governor Gina M. Raimondo and First Gentleman Andy Moffit will host the annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Holiday Celebration Thursday, November 30th at the Rhode Island State House. Celebrations will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the tree lighting will take place at 6:15 p.m.
After the tree is lit, the Governor and First Gentleman will read “The Night Before Christmas,” with an accompaniment by “The Governor’s Own” Rhode Island National Guard 88th Army Band. The celebration will include performances from the Scituate Elementary School Chorus and the De La Salle Middle School Chorus. As always, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will be visiting the State House from the North Pole.
Attendees are asked to bring an unwrapped toy to “Fill a Cruiser” with the Rhode Island State Police. Toys will be donated to a variety of local charities for distribution to local kids in need.
This year’s Christmas Tree arrived at the State House last week. The 25-foot tall Fraser fir was donated by Robert Vanderslice and Meg Kerr of North Kingstown.
