A Cirrus SR-22 in bound from Portland, ME overshot Runway 22 at Newport State Airport on Wednesday at approximately 4:30pm. The airplane, N720EC, is registered to East Coast Aviation LLC of Falmoth, ME.
No injuries were reported and the plane is still on the approach end of Runway 4 surrounded by water.
No Rhode Island Airport Corporation staff were at the airport at the time to assist with the accident.
Airport staff declined to comment.
